Maeve

There’s no doubt about it. With the intense greening and blooming ver the past few weeks, we are squarely sitting inside the powerful energy of Maeve. In indigenous Ireland, Maeve played multiple roles. She was a political leader who reigned from a ring fort near the border between Sligo and Roscommon. Maeve also played the role of selecting the High King of Ireland each year at the Hill of Tara. This was likely a titular role—passed on through the generations until the Norman Invasion in the 1100’s. Queen Maeve is said to be buried standing upright, with sword in hand, inside the cairn atop Knocknarea overlooking the sea at Strandhill. While she plays a special role in Sligo, she represents the energy of Bealtaine—strength, vitality, power, and sovereignty—celebrated around the first of May all over Ireland. Sometimes the energy of the land this time of year can be overpowering, espeically for those of us who are only just coming out of months of darkness and cold. So my advice is to ask Maeve herself to guide you toward the light—outside and deep within yourself. Slainte!
